AREA GUIDES & MAPS > MAKATI CITY

Makati is the premier city district of Manila and Capital of the Philippines. At the heart of business and entertainment in the city, it is a melting pot of various cultures and nationalities. International and local companies abound in the Central Business District and the establishment of several of the top malls in the Philippines has led to a surge in shops, restaurants and bars in the area. Foreigners, tourists and expats are a common site throughout Makati and, being a buzzing metropolitan area, it is a safe location to live and work.

The main traditional residential areas are Legaspi and Salcedo Villages although more recently Rockwell and the Fort (Bonifacio Global City) have been developed to provide a variety of alternative modern inner city living options which blend quiet living with a bustling international lifestyle. Scattered throughout the area are the gated villages of Bel-Air, San Miguel, Urdaneta and San Lorenzo for those seeking a more secluded home. Despite the widespread facilities, Makati is compact and easy to navigate with taxis widely available at all times of the day.

Legaspi Village

Legaspi Village has evolved as the central hub of up-market living in Makati following the establishment of The Greenbelt Shopping Mall and the upgrade of the Glorietta Mall. Home to the more upscale boutiques, a wide variety of fine dining establishments, movie theatres, grocery stores and bars, Greenbelt is just a short walk or taxi ride away from all the premium residences in Legaspi. Recognizing this, a large number of developers are currently constructing new projects in the area.

International cuisine is now well established throughout Manila and Legaspi offers the widest choice from upmarket Italian and French bistros to excellent Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and local fare, not to mention the plethora of Fusion options. For a quick fix and midnight snacks, convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and Mini Stop are available throughout the village. For the more adventurous, the Legaspi Sunday Market held at the Legaspi Park boasts a wide variety of cooked food, pastries, native products and other unique finds and is a welcome contrast to organized city living.

Areas of interest in the vicinity include the Metropolitan Museum and the Ayala Museum while for sports enthusiasts the city golf courses of Intramuros, Navy, Army and Wack Wack are not far away.

Schools include AIM for continuing business management students, Don Bosco, Assumption College, St. Mary's and San Agustin.

Stay healthy with regular checkups at The Makati Medical Center and Philippine Orthopedic Institute. They have modern facilities and specialists who undergo constant training locally and abroad.

Salcedo Village

Just across Ayala Avenue, Salcedo Village is close to all the amenities that Legaspi Village enjoys. The upmarket Greenbelt Mall and recently refurbished Glorietta Mall with an array of quality fine dining and entertainment are only a 5 minute taxi ride away. Right next door are SM, Landmark and Rustan's department stores all of which house their own supermarkets and 5 minutes in the other direction you will find Rockwell's Power Plant Mall with another selection of upmarket international brand shopping and dining.

Salcedo also has its own very popular Weekend Market held at the Jaime Velasquez Park every Saturday from 7 am to 2 pm where you will find local and international delicacies. The park also hosts occasional classical concerts and is popular with both adults and kids at dusk. Next to the Park, Makati Sports Club provides the more athletic with a swimming pool, clubhouse and tennis courts. Given its central location, Salcedo Village remains quiet and relaxing outwith rush hour and remains a safe and relaxed place to live. New developments continue to rise throughout the area to supplement the existing diverse condo living.
