Area Description
- Puerto Galera is located on the north shore of Mindoro Island, 130 kilometers south of Manila and 14 nautical miles from Batangas City. It comprises 12 coastal districts (barangays) and one mountain district, scattered over an area of 23,247 hectares bordered in the north by Verde Island Passage, in the south by Mount Baco and Mount Malasimbo, in the northeast by San Teodoro Municipality and in the northwest by Occidental Mindoro. The terrain is rugged with sometimes dense jungle, an irregular coastline with crystal, clear water and wide sand beaches, a natural harbor and safe anchorage. It has become a center for diving in the Philippines due to its clear waters and array of ship and boat wrecks that act as a haven to a wide variety of fish and plant life.
Puerto Galera is only three and a half hour away from Manila first by bus to the port at Batangas City and then by boat. Tourists can also take the tourist service called the Sikat, from the City State Tower Hotel in Manila from the Batangas City port to Puerto Galera or Sabang Beach, Mindoro.
